Jakarta, July 2024 – PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship through the Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) program. Through the HK Urban HabitSphere initiative, which took place from October to December 2023 in Kampung Pro Climate (Proklim) RW 05, Cibubur Village and RW 12, Malaka Jaya Village, East Jakarta, Hutama Karya collaborated with Tunasmuda Care Foundation (T.CARE) to promote the revitalization of local ecosystems for sustainable development.
During the implementation of this program, 42 Hutama Karya employees served as HK Urban Rangers actively supporting communities in addressing environmental challenges in the urbanization era. Tjahjo Purnomo, EVP Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, stated that the program aims to increase employees’ social awareness through creative ideas such as urban agriculture development and sustainable waste management. “This program not only benefits the environment but also the surrounding communities,” he added.
One of the program’s main focuses was the socialization of Governor Regulation No. 77 of 2020 on Waste Management within the scope of Neighborhood Associations, emphasizing the importance of recycling and separating organic and inorganic waste before processing at the Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST) Bantar Gebang. Another successful initiative was the transformation of used cooking oil into economically valuable goods through the Waste Bank, with progress reaching 80%.
The program’s locations were chosen not only for their proximity to company operations but also for adopting the Climate Village Program (Proklim) and local community-managed initiatives such as urban farming (TOGA) and the Waste Bank. In addition to environmental activities, HK Urban HabitSphere also provided infrastructure assistance, including clean water facilities, fences, gazebos, and management and organizational training in RW 05, Cibubur, and RW 12, Malaka Jaya. In RW 12, Malaka Jaya, Hutama Karya also built a Green House to support sustainable initiatives.
Tjahjo Purnomo affirmed that the program would continue in 2024 with hopes of providing further benefits to all stakeholders, particularly in creating a greener and more sustainable environment. This program fully aligns with ISO:26000 and supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 15 on Land Ecosystems and SDG 9 on Infrastructure, Industry, and Innovation.
Luthfiah FM, Corporate Partnership & Sustainability at T.CARE, welcomed the HK Urban HabitSphere initiative and expressed commitment to continuing support for environmental conservation and sustainable development in the local community. “We hope this collaboration can serve as a replicable model for other companies and organizations to achieve green and sustainable environments,” she said.
HK Urban HabitSphere is part of the NATAKOTA Program initiated by T.CARE. This program aims to create a sustainable future through community empowerment and urban environmental management based on green economic principles. The vision of NATAKOTA is to create a greener and more sustainable future by managing urban environments using green economic principles. To achieve this vision, NATAKOTA aims to empower communities through sustainable environmental education programs and the adoption of green technologies such as recycling and renewable energy.
With the spirit of “Nata,” which means arranging, tidying, and improving for organization, and “Kota,” which refers to urban areas, NATAKOTA aims to create positive change by educating the public on the importance of environmental preservation and adopting eco-friendly technologies in daily life.
